Robert/La Snacks

As many of you may know, Joe Deshotel has left La Snacks for a time to return home (Beaumont) to get his college degree.  We have been working to move Trae (our bass player) to guitar and adding a new bass player our friend Charlie. This does not mean Joe is out of the band forever and does not mean he is definitely coming back. 

We made this decision so we could continue writing and recording songs for our new record. We have about seven new songs that we will play at the the Mohawk November 12th after Thao and the Get Down Stay Down, inside with our good friend DJ John Gross. We hope you will join us for this new era of La Snacks.

“As you may or may not know we lost one of our band-mates, Jon Pettis, early Friday morning due to smoke inhalation from a freak electrical fire in his home. His Fiancee along with his good friends and roommates lost everything they owned. We are raising money to get everybody who was displaced back on their feet. Folks in Austin, we are playing a show tonight before we go on tour on the outfloor at emo’s with Pretty Nice, Oh No Oh My and The Low Lows.  Doors open at 9pm and we play right at 10pm so please come out an see us before we go on tour.

To say the least.

We had three shows in two days, so Thursday was a double header of sorts.

We played the first show, it went ok. It could have been better but we were pretty exhausted with works and plannings as la snacks (Robert) curated a two day show.

I couldn’t seem to get anyone to cover any of my shifts from work as well. So I either begged and borrowed to get out an hour early or same day switched so I could make it to my shows, which involved me riding my bike through the insane SXSW traffic to get to the shows.

(Did you know clubs upped the parking fee to $20? Suckers!)

After the first show, I went out to eat at Polvo’s with friends and had some food and margaritas. From there Marisa and I went to Auditorium shores and hung out on a hill and digested.

The second show approaching lead me to our official showcase at the hide out. What a cool venue. Small/intimate/theatre seating/awesome. The roadies had a little trouble with running a line out and like most situations, it was two guys (me and sound guy) working,rigging my amp, and three others standing around. Consequently, an unlikely roadie got blasted in the eye by my bass head and I felt bad. This show went well, and sounded really good.

I got about five hours sleep and went to work. Later that night I went to Space Cave and saw Transmography. It’s a shame they didn’t get a SXSW Show. They are a lot more creative and have more heart/want than a lot of the bands I saw that had showcases.

Saturday, I reckon I had four hours sleep and I had to work at 8 am. Exhaustion was setting in. I emergen-c’d my heart out. worked my shift and bathed in the sink at work. It was Tuesday I had last bathed and I felt fresh afterwards. [Note: The hand soap in bathrooms makes your hair really soft.] After the quick sink bath, I rode my bike to the show, stomached some high lifes, and played a show. It was a good show. Probably our best show. Definitely, our funnest.

From there I proceeded to eat pizza, and got to see The Proclaimers, who were amazing and the best band I saw all SXSW. They really go for it. I saw a bit of Kings of Leon, didn’t really care for them and left. I caught Echo and the Bunnymen and got right up to the front of the stage. They were all outfits and sunglasses much like KOL. There was no oomf! in their set like The Proclaimers, who were just two brothers, a guit and a tamborine (did I mention they were awesomely captivating?). I stayed for about five and a half songs for Echo and the Bunnymen and felt myself starting to black out. So I bounced. I made it home, fell asleep in the bath and awoke refreshed and fell asleep correctly. Got some sleep and am now recovering.

What a hectic and awesome week?
